Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) is a ~37 KD enzyme that phosphorylates glyceralde-hyde-3-phosphate during glycolysis. GAPDH gene is often stably and constitutively expressed at high levels in most tissues and cells. As a result, GAPDH is considered as a housekeeping gene and commonly used as a loading control for western blot and gene expression. GAPDH has also been found implicated in transcription activation, apoptosis initiation, vesical transportation from ER to Golgi, metabolic switch during oxidative stress, and neurodegenerative pathologies.
